Sent to All Nations
Key thoughtJesus sends His followers to make disciples of all nations, and He promises to be with them always.
“Listen for what Jesus commands His followers to do — and what He promises them.”
18And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
After His resurrection, Jesus gathered His disciples and gave them a command: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations.” He did not say, “Stay and be good.” He said, “Go.” Make disciples. Baptize. Teach. And then He gave the greatest promise: “Behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Missions did not start with Paul. It started with Jesus. He is the one who sends. He is the one who goes with us. The Great Commission is not a burden we carry alone. It is a command backed by Jesus’ presence. Wherever we go — across the street or across the world — Jesus is with us.
This Sunday, Pastor Daniel preaches on Missions. The missionary we are praying for, Justin, is in Europe sharing the gospel with people who have not heard. Jesus’ command is not just for missionaries. It is for all of us. Every Christian is sent — to someone, somewhere, with the promise that Jesus is with us.
Who is one person you could tell about Jesus this week? Pray for them by name, then look for an opportunity to share.
- What does Jesus command His followers to do? What does He promise them?
- Does “all nations” mean only faraway places? Who are the “nations” in your neighborhood, your workplace, your school?
- Who is one person you could share the gospel with this week?
Ask God to show you one person who needs to hear about Jesus. Pray for courage to share with them. Thank Jesus for His promise: “I am with you always.” Ask Him to help you go where He sends, trusting that He goes with you.
Amen
